Joint routing and wavelength assignment in wavelength division multiplexing networks for permanent and reliable paths

چکیده
In this paper, we tackle the routing and wavelength assignment problem for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks containing permanent and reliable wavelength paths (WPs). It consists of 4nding the route and the wavelength of each WP for the normal state of the network and for the important failure scenarios. These scenarios might be the most probable failure scenarios or simply the failure scenarios of interest to the network planner (e.g., the single link failure scenarios). We propose a mathematical programming model for this problem. In order to 4nd a solution within a reasonable amount of time, a simple heuristic algorithm is proposed. The results show that “good” solutions can be obtained with the proposed heuristic algorithm. ? 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

We consider the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) problem on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks without wavelength conversion. When the physical network and required connections are given, RWA is the problem to select a suitable path and wavelength among the many possible choices for each connection such that no two paths using the same wavelength pass through the same link. ...
متن کاملA New Algorithm for Reducing the Number of Add-Drop Multiplexers in WDM Optical Ring Networks
This paper considers a network design problem introduced in 11,12 in which resource allocation is performed within a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical ring network to reduce overall equipment cost. The problem can be summarized as follows. The Add-Drop Multiplexers (ADM's) that are used to terminate lightpaths in an optical (SONET/SDH) ring are expensive and therefore a naive imple...

The need for on-demand provisioning of wavelength routed channels with service differentiated offerings within the transport layer has become more essential due to the recent emergence of high bit rate IP network applications such as multimedia conferencing systems, video on demand systems, real-time control systems, etc. Diverse optical transport network architectures have been proposed in ord...
متن کاملTopological Design of WDM Networks Accommodating Wavelength Paths
Recently, the number of carriers have increased and they intensively compete with each other. In order to accommodate skyrocketing traac, it is natural that several carriers newly construct ber optic networks as well as the existing ones. The wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology is promising for the construction. In the WDM networks, several routing and wavelength assignment strate...
